Steak in a Bag Unverified!

Yield: 4-6 servings


  • 1 cup egg bread crumbs, 3 or 4 slices, make in blender
  • 2-3 lb. top sirloin steak, about 2 1/2 inches
  • 4 Tbsp margarine, softened, not melted
  • 4 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp crushed garlic
  • 2 tsp seasoned salt
  • 2 1/2 tsp seasoned pepper
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese (4 oz)


Prepare egg breadcrumbs, set aside. Remove excess fat from steak. In small bowl, mix margarine, oil, seasoned salt + pepper until well blended. Spread on all sides of the steak.

Mix breadcrumbs + cheese. Press into butter mixture on steak. Put steak in brown paper bag. Fold end over + secure with staples or paper clips. Steak may now be refrigerates for several hours.

Before cooking, bring steak to room temperature. Preheat oven to 375F. Place bag in rimmed baking sheet + bake 30 minutes. For medium-rare steak, increase oven temp to 425F + bake 15 min more, total of 45 min. Remove steak from bag. Let stand 5 minutes before carving into thin slices.

Two steaks may be baked in same bag. Double the recipe but keep baking time the same.
