Pear Harlequin Unverified!

A recipe from the Sacramento Bee, well yellowed.


  • 8 cups peeled, cored and diced Bartlett pears
  • 6 cups sugar
  • 1 can (8 1/4 oz) crushed pineapple
  • grated peel and juice of 1 orange
  • grated peel and juice of 1 lemon
  • 1 small jar Maraschino cherries


Combine pears, sugar, pineapple, grated orange peel and juice and grated lemon peel and juice. Cover and let stand overnight.

Next day, simmer fruit mixture slowly, stirring occasionally, until thick, about 1 hour.

Add diced maraschino cherries and juice. Pour into hot sterilized jars and seal
