Peaches or Strawberries in Orange Sauce Unverified!

This is a pretty unusual entry. It is written on the back of a card from Casa De Los Ninos, a restaurant benefiting the Sacramento Children's Home where my grandmother volunteered. Now called the "Casa Garden" it still serves lunch Monday - Friday. Lining this up with some guesswork, this looks to be from 1982: MARCH LUNCHEON MENUS 1st-5th: Garden Crepes, Fruit Kabobs, Onion-Rice Muffin, Brownie Pie 8th-12th: Beef Mindanao, Spinach Orange Salad, Potato Roll, Topical Fruit Glace 15th-19th (truncated) This is obviously scaled to industrial levels.


  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 6 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 12 cups rose wine
  • 6 cups orange juice
  • 1/4 cup orange peel
  • 2 Tbsp lemon peel
  • 12 qts sliced fresh peaches


Mix cornstarch, sugar + salt. Add wine, orange juice + peels + stir until smooth. Cook + stir over medium heat until mixture boils and thickens clear. Chill. Pour over fruit. Chill for several hours.
