Combine milk and eggs. Pour over bread. Stir in sugar, butter, lemon peel, salt and raisins. Pour into 2 quart greased baking dish. Sprinkle with grated nutmeg. Place dish in shallow pan: pour hot watter around dish one inch deep. Bake 350F oven 50 to 55 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Serve warm or cold with lemon sauce.
Lemon sauce: Combine sugar and cornstarch thoroughly in a small saucepan until smooth. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly: cook 1 to 2 minutes. Stir in butter, lemon peel and juice. Serve warm over bread.
