Preheat oven to 30F. Brown 5 Tbl of the butter in large skillet of medium-low heat. Add breadcrumbs, cinnamon and salt and stir occasionally until breadcrumbs are toasty, 8-10 minutes. Remove from heat, cool and toss with brown sugar.
Combine pear slices, lemon juice and maple syrup.
Butter 2 quart baking dish. Coat evenly with 1/2 cup breadcrumbs. Place half of pear mixture on pan and dot [INSTRUCTIONS UNCLEAR: how? melted?] 1 Tbl of butter. Cover with half remaining breadcrumbs. Spoon remaining pears and any juice and cover with remaining crumbs. Dot [AGAIN, UNCLEAR] with remaining 1 Tbl butter.
Bake until pears are soft and crumbs are dark brown, 45-60 minutes depending on taste.
