| November/December
With enough stuff going on, I got a bit neglectful in the picture-taking department. Only a few random shots from this period.

| 06 Dec 03 - The Annual Holiday Party
The Hart's sponsored this year's annual fete at their spacious Arden Arcade estate. Good times with old friends though sadly a few of the old-timers were no-shows (Roy in Panang, e.g.)

| 8 November 2003 -- Hank and Jenny's Weddding
Well, holy crap -- anybody think Hank ever'd get married FIRST? I certainly didn't. Funny how things work out, innit?
In any regard...
A quite wonderful wedding down at the Ryde Hotel down in the delta. I've always thought such places were always neat in a kind of scary way.
Halloween was, after all, just a couple of days past...
So, a few ghost stories and one about a really nice wedding I went to.

| 25 October 2003 -- Hank's Bachelor Party Yes, once again the discretionary man takes few pictures and leaves his camera at home before going out on a bachelor party evening. Frankly, I was a bit too intoxicated to operate a camera starting about an hour after I got there, so maybe that has something to do with it. In any regard, a few pictures of our trip up.

| 4-5 October 2003 -- San Francisco
My good friend Chris Piper droped me a line about a month ago to see if I wanted to go see Turbo Negro. I'd heard the band in Phil's car when we came down for Foo Man Chew a few months before and decided that they'd be a good time as well ("I don't like these punk rock girls...going out with these new wave boyfriends", etc)
While not photographed, let me say that the concert was awesome. Lots of big people to bounce off, lots of short people to crush accidentally. Loud, loud, loud and a lead singer who proved that big sloppy men can perhaps be sexy after all.
Anyways, we all had come to explore the city a bit and see the Castro Street Faire and captialize on our friend John's wonderful hospitality and wonderful abode so close to all the action. With some extra time to spare we went and saw the sights of a beautiful day in the City.

| 21-28 September 2003 -- Sea Ranch
Hilary asked, "what would you like to do for your birthday" and I'd answered "I'd like to go to Sea Ranch" and she made it happen.

| 13 September 03 -- Shootin'
I suppose that we were all itching to do some shooting: despite the original stated intent (breaking in a new weapon) having fallen by the wayside, we all brought a few things to put holes in...

| 1 September 2003 -- Everyone loves a car crash
Well, goll-y, photos have gotten easier to publish now that I've got a little code to do the ugly work for me. Worst part is swapping out all the damned chips and figuring out what photos to give you. I've got these here of demolition derby and the next few here to round out summer. Good times, and unlike Jay Gatsby, I didn't get shot at the end of it :)

| 30 Aug - 1 Sept, Rice Wedding Dude, good times. 'nuff said. More inside. | |
| August, neither here nor there
Lots of little shit going on in August, none of which I was particularly obsessed about documenting so much as participating in. Hank called a Boy's Night to go to RPM racing which was particularly fun but hard on the ass. Amy made one last drag through town and it was a really nice day to go to Denios, and some shit there is kinda funny. So, enjoy.

| 15 Aug 2003 -- State Fair Once again the State Fair sucks me down THREE times (holy crap!) This is the first ever time I managed to break it across the entire fair: once on opening day, once on closing day and once right in the middle.
Before you shout "l-oooser!" I say in my defence I only really went this one time. These other two times it was 'cos I was going to the races and the demolition derby and someone had inconveniently scheduled them INSIDE the damned State Fair.
Tho I'll admit I did enjoy a little food each time...urp.

| 9 August 2003 -- Amy and Luca's Festa So, like, I got no photos of this. Truth is, I'm lame, but I'll say I was busy hosting. Amy and Luca are doing the whirlwind meet-and-greet and hangout plan for a festive couple of weeks and I figured there was no better excuse to see them than having everyone over for a big 'do in their honor.
Problem was, Mr. Ricey's in-town bachelor gig was the night before and I got in at about 7am feeling like ass. One does get a certain "uber" status by trudging through McKinley park at 6am while everyone is out jogging and you are in your party clothes reeking of alcohol, but it makes for a bit of a low-key host. The best part of the evening was running into Amy, Luca and everyone down at the Town House where we all managed to collide in a burst of collective unconsciousness and small-town good luck.
Anyways, nice party, glad everyone came and brought food. Kristi and Donna made it up from Sonoma and Leigh and Harry from Sandy Eggo -- the first time I'd seen any of 'em in a while...

| 31 July - 3 Aug -- Ricey's Bachelor party Well, sheeit. I've been doing so many of these danged things this year that I feel more at home at bachelor parties than any other kind. Ricey's last month of bachelorhood gets off to a hairy start with an endless blackout that we'll call his Bachlor Party.
Suffice it to say, what happens in Nevada stays in Nevada, so no tales told. Well, okay, one, but its pretty harmless.

| 26 July 2003 -- Jason and Maria's wedding
Well, Jason and Maria pulled it off. Married?!? Married! Jason becomes one of the first of his Camp generation to tie the knot in a entertaining afternoon and evening. The ceremony was about half in Spanish, which is always a pleasant way to greet the Catholic ceremony, though he kept saying "Sacramento", leaving some of us to wonder if he wasn't talking about The Early Days or something.
Good times had by all, folks coming from far and wide and one actually fresh from camp...
This also marks the first new entry for both the Cannon A70 (hello, hello) and a new backend making my life theoretically easier when it comes to submitting this stuff.

| 13-14 July, 2003 -- Wolfeboro Well, gotta take the trip at least once a year. Hilary and I packed the Subaru up, loaded up them dogs and headed down into the valley for two days of relaxation and checking things out. I've always enjoyed Camp History and so, a little history and a whole lot of jawing about how things were better back in my day.
PS to Roy -- this means, of course, that we'll need to go down sometime when camp -ain't- to work out the truck and get some more photos...

| 04 July 2003 -- Fourth of July Redeux
In what can only be described as a "Beearacle", the venerable A40 reappeared at my house. I was putting away my backpack after Ricey's Bachelor party and there was this THUNK and I look down and see that the camera has apparently fallen from...where? Surely not the backpack because I took that on not one but TWO trips, breaking it down completely between trips and intensively searching it for the goddamned camera.
Its always nice when weird shit like this works out well: Amy and Luca's camera decided to "go all pear shaped" on them, rendering it unable to take photos. A40 to the rescue :) As an added bonus, I got the Fourth of July pictures back which, as described below, are kinda weak.
| |
| 04 July 2003 -- Fourth Of July Once again with the 04 July party. A nice quiet gig and one where I didn't take many pictures other than some funny ones of people holding babies. Sadly, my camera got ganked out of my car and these photos were lost. 'sokay, I got a newer, better one and I'll steal some of Roys.
Never like taking pictures of pool parties anyways...

| 26-28 June 2003 -- DuBoosin My friend Jason is finally making an honest woman out of his longterm girlfriend Maria. In his honor, about 19 guys trekked up to Castella to do some drinking in his honor. While I'm generally of the "First Rule Of Fight Club" mindset about bachelor parties, cameras -were- specifically requested in the invite. Besides, how much trouble are a bunch of Eagle Scouts going to get into? No more than usual, anyways.
Miles joined me for the ride there and two days of manic drinking ensued.

| 23 June 2003 -- GMO The Ministerial Conference and Expo on Agricultural Science and Technology came to town and brought with it all sorts of non-local protestor types to lay siege to the city for four days. Ironically, the protesters bring with them the very seeds of the Evil State that they claim to be fighting, causing downtown to be all but closed save for protestors and cops in some sections.
Things started off pleasantly enough and a few of us from the 'net decided we would go down and join the circus for a while...
By the end of the day I was pissed and sick of all of them: the cops, the protestors, the Ag expo. When they all went home on Thursday I was a much happier camper.

| 14 June 2003 -- Uncle Ed's 80th birthday celebration/WE Jen's 30th birthday celebration Uncle Ed turned 80 recently and it was an excuse to get the whole clan together. He's not quite as fiesty as his older brother but managed to name every nephew and nearly every other guest. Added bonus (or, "why do I care?"), it was held at the house of Huey Lewis and the News skin's man (and my Dad's cousin) Bill Gibson.
*Additionally* Jennifer Hart was going to turn THIRTY. She's the last of the old college crowd to hit 30 (Dave came later and we always think he's our age anyways) and Doug threw a proper party in her honor -including- a band. You hate to cut either event short, but what can you do?
| Hello, Spring! Well, spring came and went and Hilary was down tending to her mum in her last days so I found myself with lots of spare time on my hands so I decided to make some home improvements to fix crap that had always annoyed me. The dog and I hung out more, hung out with my friend Andi a bit and worked my way through Memorial Day in good, festive ways, including moving a baby grand that had survived the trip down from Liberty Lake. | |
| 27-29 April 2003 -- Andrew & Miranda's Wedding Weekend I really enjoy event-driven weddings the more I go to 'em. Not just "going to a wedding", but going someplace special and fun for the couple. Its doubly fun as The Minister 'cause you get to play Minister all weekend. Nobody knows any different -- _you_ are from out of town. Plus, you always get treated first-class.Makes me think I'm in the wrong racket...
On a somber note, Hilary's mom's memorial service was that Sunday, way down the coast. We decided that we were going to take HWY 1 down Ft. Bragg and while its something everyone should do once in their life, its the kind of once that ends in "ever" and followed quickly up with "and never when you are in a hurry."
| |
| 12 April 2003 -- Baby Day Well, Molly had gone and had Noah early, sadly scrubbing her baby shower. No worries, never too little, to late! We had a party for the lil' squirmer and all his contemporaries came along.
For the not parentally minded, we can continue to play the game "Babies: who gots 'em, who needs 'em?"
| |
| 12 April 2003 -- Picnic Day Tho it were rainy and we had Other Things To Do, we soldiered through the annual UCD event. | |
| 7 April 2003 -- Andrew's Backyard There would have been three Discovery documentaries made so far this year if I had the chance to do it over with DV cams and an unlimited budget. Number one would be Mr. Andrew's Backyard. Come with us, won't you, and find out what one unemployed dotcommer with a lot of free time and too much talent on his hands works his magic on his backyard.
Shall we?
| |
| 5 April 2003 -- Greg...30?!? Hard to imagine our on little Greggie is all grows up and he's all grows up and he's all grows up... | |
| What I do when you are not around Life has conspired to limit social options during these Spring months. Such seems to always be the case, though. I always marvel at year's end when I'm trying to do some kind of goddamned wrapup of the year's events and discover that I have a three-month period where I apparently do nothing. Really, its more like I do very little where it would be interesting or appropriate to lug a camera along. A few birthdays, some dinner parties, that's it.
Determined to give myself some clues later, I grabbed a few shots of what I've been doing in my free moments...
| |
| 6 March 2003 -- BABY BRYANS!! Cheryl and Roy were supposed to drop by for dinner but were "running a bit late" at their appointment. Well, apparently they decided Cheryl was Good To Go and away we went. I've got some more pictures from that evening somewhere that I'll put up when I find 'em. | |
| 15 Feb 2003 -- SF Chinese New Year As a kid growing up, I think I probably watched a million Chinese New Year parades on Channel 2. I always wanted to go to one and when I was in High School got to march with the band in LA's. That building on the beginning of Dragnet really does exist.
That's not the point, of course, the point is that Hilary and I were down in the Bay Area for a crabfeed and were fortunate enough to have some lucky adventures in the free moments.
| Winter 2003 Weddings, god, dogs and fog. Alternatly titled: How I Spent My Winter Vacation | |
| 17-18 January 2003: Murphys Mr. Jason DuBose and his soon-to-be-wife Maria needed to go to Murphy's to taste all the wines at Ironstone for their wedding. They were nice to have us along for the ride. A good trip with old friends out of the fog that had blanketed the valley for so many weeks. | |
