Holiday Party Season 2002
Not quite as rollicking as in previous years, 2002's Holiday season was plenny full of good times. Roy & Cheryl put on their ever-popular gig once again this year and Greg and I got things going on at our place, seein' as how some of the legendary holiday gigs of previous years weren't going down...

Doug's Bowl-o-Rama
Doug turned 50 40 this year and Jen organized a suprise 'do at a wonderfully divey little joint out in O'vale in celebration. Heck, even Maria was there.
Thanksgiving Weekend, Vicki And Grant's Wedding
Well, ding dang! Vicki and Grant done got married? Who'da thunk? Unfortunately I was "otherwise disposed" during the wedding proper and didn't get any photos. I managed to sneak a few shots of the roaming around we did in between getting our buzz on (okay, who am I kidding...I was buzzed the whole weekend...)

16 November 2002 -- Beck Buh-Bye
Mom and Dad Beck decided to pursue their fortunes in the wonderful environs of Lompoc, bidding a fond adieu (for now) to Rancho Murietta and all their friends there. A wonderful festa put on by the old masters...
10 November, 2002 -- Big Trees
Greg & Alison had been making trips up to Arnold and Nevada city and pronouncing good things upon the fall action. Hilary and I dedided that tromping around the mountains would be a good way to go and headed up to Big Trees for a day. Good christ it was cold, something like 40 degrees with standing mist. Really pretty if one were dressed right. I needed a bit more equipment...

27 October, Walk For the Cure, SF
Took a trip down to The City to meet with Hils family and some of their coworkers at the great Walk. I'd done the SJ Komen one up here a few months before, but the organizers haven't quite hipped to the idea of "good scenery along the route."

Twisting through and out of Golden Gate Park, I found myself along backroads I didn't even know existed, corners abandoned by the touristas who would fight for an hour for the closest available parking. I wish I'd gotten a shot of the guys sailing boats in the little pond on the hill, but I neglected to think about it until just now.

October Grab Bag
My world consisted of yard work, and trips along 16 to go to such exotic locales as Rancho Murietta and Ione. Also in there a trip to the Corn Maize.
Usedta be called Bedbug, ya know...

10 October 2002, Andrew & Miranda
My friends Andrew and Miranda bought a house over in "Mather", formerly known as "...Air Force Base". Turns out there's some really pretty real estate out there on the south end...
28 September 2002 -- Frank and Maria's Big Fat Italian Wedding
Most of the time I think that, ah...nobody's really looking for pictures here anymore, are they? In this particular case, I was feeling much punked out by Doug who not only had better pictures but his interface actually worked! Bastard!

Anyways, I finally got off my butt on a "comand performance" from the bride. Married and still intimidating, who am I to say no?

9-19 September 2002, England
Hilary's, um...half-aunt and uncle...wanted to make her the godmom for their newly born child. Sounded like a perfect excuse for a somewhat unscheduled trip to the UK to see what had changed in the decade since I'd last been...
01 September 2002 -- Chalk It Up
Uh, like, yah man. Its like...uh, chalk? Or something? Purty pictures of the annual downtown event.

29 August 2002 -- State Fair
Hilary and I headed over to the State Fair since it is our responsibility as Sacramentans to take advantage of that giant event at least once -- I mean, what else does one have to do at that point in the summer? Exactly. So, it turned out to be a really good time and I was wishing I'd brought my camera during most of it. They had this Carneval thing which turned out to be just short of amazing, especially considering it was brought to us by the state fair. I dragged my MD recorder along for a second night and grabbed some photos while I was there.
23-26 August 2002 -- Almanor
The ol' Pollock Family took its, uh...31st? Something like that, 31st, 32nd trip up to Lassen View Resort at Lake Almanor for a little WT-esque camping and old haunts. I dragged Hilary along as a convenient excuse to get the hell out of camp on a regular basis and we had a pretty good time exploring the place and being terrified of the nearby burgh of Westwood (the only place to get lotto tix nearby).
FLUME!

22 August 2002 -- Ciao Amy!
Well, sadly, this leg of Amy's US visit is over. She's s'posed to be back in the fall to give us all one last chance to swing with her before she becomes (sniff) a Real Resident.

But hey, that's then, right? Greg and I were honered to have her over to wine and dine her one last time and worked up a tag-team chef extravaganza in her honor. Hopefully it'll tide her over 'til she gets there...

11 August 2002 -- River Otter Amphibious Race
I guess the real reason Sacramentans read the Sac News & Review is for movie listings and to find out about weird events like this. ROAR took out a half-page ad and left me wondering what the hell all THAT was about. Turns out, well, lots...

July, 2002
I again find myself with too many things that had too few pictures. July was a busy month -- did a company picnic down in Roaring Camp with Hil's folks, went to the Home & Garden show with Andrew & Mirana (and drooled over the stainless steel demo kitchen, et al), and hit up not only Lambtown but the Snake & Reptile show. All the while, Roy and Cheryl are remodeling...
July 7, 2002 -- Dixon
Driving through Dixon on the way back from breakfast one weekend, I came across all sorts of neat stuff and decided to come back and see what I could get.

June, 2002
Frogs legs, birthdays, graduations, homecomings and a devestating loss to the Lakers. All in the month of June.

WOOF!
June 22, 2002 -- Wolfeboro Trip
Its a longstanding tradition of mine to visit the old stomping grounds at least once a year. I barely made it last year and so didn't want to leave it too late in the summer this time. The nice thing about having an All Wheel Drive girlfriend is that it makes it much less of a visiting-the-surface-of-the-moon trip and more of a leisurely outing. We hit up the famed Jesus Burger, Darby's Red Apple (on vacation, the bastard!), and the always pleasant Alpine Lodge (best food at the end of the road you'll find, I think).

Additionally, these photos broke all my software, so -- new code for y'alls.

June 8, Shavor's Havana 1958
Chris recently became a homeowner and decided the best way to test his new condominium's party accomodations was to hold a nice sized one at his pad in Walnut Creek. It'd been at least a year since I'd seen most of this group last. I don't think I've seen Matt for maybe two-three years. Always such a good time, what we can recall of it later.

Memorial Day Weekend, Sea Ranch
Back in, um, November I think ('cause it was their anniversary, or nearly so), Roy and Cheryl rented a little house down in Sea Ranch. They had such a good time that they decided to do it again and invite anyone who wanted to come to join them. Hils and I dropped in on the first weekend for some nice, relaxing times along the coast.
May, 2002
I was a piss-poor documentarian in May. Whole Earth, Drinko-De-Mayo, Race For The Cure -- only the latter did I actually get anything useable from. It was spring, and I was lazy.

April 21-25, 2002 -- Whistler
Hilary and I went up to Whistler last year as part of the company retreat for my old company (no, the other one) and had a damned fine time. We resolved to go back and ski the glacier. Well, no dice on that account, but we did have a damned fine time.
April 8-14, Ski Bumin', part one
Bein' all amped up about going to Italy drained whatever drive I may have had to go skiing. A bunch of crap weather during those times that it would have been good to go didn't help either. So its pretty late in the season before I got my jones. Fortunately, Hilary, bein' Crazy Ski Racer girl had a number of races at Northstar and down at Mammoth, so along I went...

09 Mar 02 -- Sly Park
Greg and I were getting a little stir-crazy and decided to take the dog up to Sly Park to dork around in the snow. Only problem -- no snow...
23 Feb 02, Molly & Lori's Birthday
An odd night of family-oriented SpagFag wholesomeness merged with bellydancing debauchery. Good times, good times. If you're only going to have one or two good party nights all winter, this would be hard to beat.

Winter 2002
It seems that every year the events sort of taper off before Cinco De Mayo kicks off the spring party season. This year was no exception. The gatherings this year have been smaller, intimate affairs, but still lots of fun. Here's what we've been filling our time with.
19 Jan 02, Tourist, Sacto
When you come back with tourist eyes, you get to keep 'em for a little while and I wanted to unleash 'em on the old homestead. See if I could find the nooks and crannies while I was still in the mindeset.

Plus, I had to do something to justify all that goddamned work.

27 Dec - 10 Jan, ITALY!
Florence, Pisa, Rome, Milan, Venice. Five days, a goodly chunk of the country. And, oh, yeah.

I think I might have seen the Leaning Tower in there someplace ;)

By the by, I'm using a new image rendering/serving scheme. I've been noticing all kinds of weirdness that I can't quite peg down solidly. If you have problems, drop me a line and I'll take a look at it.
